Thanks for the schedule. I'll have my eye on UMass and SJU. Miami needs Ws in the worst way. Creighton stealing one back from Drake would be huge.

Who will UC fans be rooting for in tonight's game against West Virginia?

Snipe -

If you've been listening to local SportsTalk this week, the town is split between rooting for Jabba the Huggins and the actual UC team. The man simply won't go away.

So far, UC is leading the Civil War 15-7 in Morgantown with about 10 minutes elapsed.

UD leads SLU 15-14 with 9:24 to go in the 1st half.

UMass leads Duquesne 24-21 about halfway through the 1st half.

Great game. What a track meet. Nobody can hit a free throw though. I think UMass is up by 5.

That would be something if Richmond could get a statement win at URI tonight. As for GW, you have to have a feeling they're going to knock off one of the big dogs at home pretty soon. They're on pace at the moment to completely get shut out of AC; I can't imagine that's going to hold for very long down the stretch.

West Virginia is starting to get untracked offensively, but they're still down 29-21 at the 2-minute mark.

UMass is now up 42-35 with under 10 seconds to go in the 1st half.

Everyone's now at the half:

UMass up 44-35 on Duquesne
UC is up 34-23
Richmond and Rhody tied 35-35
La Salle beating up the Bonnies 50-33

SJU trails GW by one at the half. GW sucks on the road, but that is one tough place to play. We were lucky to get out of there with a win. It wasn't just us. They don't lose much at home.

GO BEARCATS!

St. Joe's now leads 33-31 early in the 2nd half.

UD up 48-30 with 9:33 to play

SJU still within 4 of GW though leading. You can't let them hang around in that house. They need a run or an opposite run could give them a world of hurt. Come on Hawks!

UMass now up 68-48 with 11:50 to play

UC still stomping WV 50-29 with 9:45 to play

Hawks led by as much as 7 in the 2nd half; this would not be a good time for a GW run.

01-30-2008, 07:37 PM
ESPN ticker says that Hawks are tied 47-46 with 8:33 left. I don't know if you have a more accurate account. This is a battle.

I also got URI up 1 on Richmond 50-49 with 11:12 left.

Roberts scores 18 in UD's win, so...

vs SLU - 30 pts
vs UMass - 21 pts
vs Xavier - 5 pts
vs Richmond - 20 pts
vs SLU - 18 pts

So I guess Roberts must have miraculously recovered. Either that or he had just come down with a severe case of Hammer's defense (symptoms: poor shooting, shortness of breath while trying to get open and constipation).

SLU's offense is downwright putrid. They are terrible on the offensive end of the floor.

Dayton's back folks!!! hahaha.

Seriously, how pathetic is St. Louis' offense? Xavier should easily end the jinx at SLU and win by at least 20. If we play decent defense, the Billikens won't score 40.

Looks like SJU pulled out the win at GW. I'd say , SJU and Charlotte will be the teams competing for the A10 title this year. The away games at those places could very well be the toughest road games of the season (outside ASU, of course).

SLU can be tough at home. On the road they do suck. They beat URI at home I think, and almost beat UD before the injuries. Playing at SLU will be no walk in the park. At least that is what a reasonable man would say.

Until we spank them that is.

I always worry about playing in St. Louis. We haven't had too much recent success there. To help out. I'm not making the trip this year. Maybe that will end the jinx.

If it was a weekend game I could see going. Not on a Thursday though.

Expect a tough game at SLU, but we will win again.

This is just leftover from the Brad Soderberg regime; there are nights in which they just cannot score at all.

Who would you have Stanley defend in that one - Tommie Liddell, their leading scorer and the main reason they're not at GW/St. Bonnie's level, or Kevin Lisch, a Xavier killer who has a good outside shot? Their inside game doesn't scare me at all.

Snipe

I think we will own St. Louis. I think we will own them on the boards. We will manhandle them the whole game. Men against boys. They can't compete with our bigs.

I don't think the team should overlook them, but I think I should. We win in a walk over.

They probably don't deserve as much respect as we give them anyway.

Atleast SLU was consistent....18 points at half, 36 for the game

Their inside game doesn't exist.

SLU's game is to set a ton of picks and hope someone comes open. If no one is open by the 10 second mark on the shot clock, Meyer runs to the wing, and the ball goes to either Lisch or Liddell. It's up to one of those guys to either drive, shoot, or dish to Meyer for an 18 footer on the baseline.

Husak, the seven footer, took 5 or 6 shots tonight...all from 15 feet and out. Eberhardt is a 6'4" PF that can't do anything of note, other than take up space.

SLU is just an awful, awful offensive basketball team. If they aren't drawing fouls or shooting very well, they can't compete. Dayton fell behind 14-9 early, and cut off SLU's penetration by putting Johnson on Liddell and Sandoval on Lisch, and have Huelsman hedge way out on screens because they weren't going to look inside at all. They did nothing but take 18 footers the rest of the game. Didn't even shoot a FT until well into the second half, when they were already down nearly 20.

I really wasn't impressed with Dayton today, other than hustle. They hadn't shown the hustle the last two games. Offensively Roberts was good but didn't get many looks. Warren saved the team from a terrible first half...even hit a 15 foot jumper. Second half was better, especially Sandoval. They went through a period of very timid play.

Roberts had 18 points on 7-8 shooting, 4-4 from 3.

Exactly. Prior to the Dayton-Richmond game I made the point that we'll find out how sick Roberts really is depending on how he plays. Well it looks like he's just fine and healthy, unless the Hammer is all over him. Then he's sick and short of breath. Whatever.

Agree with the seperation Am-X.

Temple beat Fordham last night. Temple moves to 10-9 (3-2). Their RPI creeps up a few to 62. Their next two are GW at home and Richmond on the road. Temple at Richmond should be a good game. I could see Temple at 5-2 in league play after the next week.

The loss to Temple is slightly lessened if they creep into the top 50.
