George Bush was often called the "worst president ever". He was not a popular man. I didn't like him as a President. I did respect him as a man. I think he is a fine and decent man. I don't think he "lied us into war" for his Halliburton buddies. I just never bought into the Bush is a Liar that wants to sell us all out gambit.

Looks like the worm has turned:

The Worst President Ever? (http://blogs.news.sky.com/americanpie/Post:1e8c29f6-1467-47c8-a7ce-1b041c7d8709)

The White House has tried to dismiss the quite extraordinary results of a new poll on Barack Obama’s approval ratings.

Maybe they shouldn’t be so quick.

The Gallup figures show Obama’s rating now stands at 47 per cent – the lowest ever recorded for any president at this point in his term of office.

With Obama fighting to persuade America on healthcare, climate change and the war in Afghanistan you would think this would be cause for concern.

So what was the response of press secretary Robert Gibbs? “If I was heart patient and Gallup was my ECG, I’d get another doctor.

“I don’t pay a lot of attention to the meaninglessness of it.”

He then compared the poll result to “what a six-year-old with a crayon” could come up with.

Sure, polls go up and down but this Gallup survey of presidential approval ratings has taken place since 1938. It is significant.

They were not the only ones to notice. From the Politico via Comedy Central:

Barack Obama Catching Up to George W. Bush Fast (http://www.indecisionforever.com/2009/12/09/barack-obama-catching-up-to-george-w-bush-fast/?xrs=rss_indecisionforever)

Hmmmm… What to make of this?

Perhaps the greatest measure of Obama's declining support is that just 50% of voters now say they prefer having him as President to George W. Bush, with 44% saying they'd rather have his predecessor.

Seems kind of early in his first term for Obama to nearly achieve the kind of unpopularity it too Bush eight years to hit, doesn't it?

Though, he is a hard worker. You have to give him that.

Google "george bush" & "worst president ever" and you will get a boatload of hits. Hell, just google "worst president ever" (or the popular "Worst. President. Ever." and it will point you to George Bush articles and sites.

Obama has hit a new low in credibiltiy in the public opinion polls. It can't be racism because we actually elected him. That is a preemptive shot at anyone that thinks it is just racism. If it was racism, those racists wouldn't have voted for him in the first place. Many people that voted for him now think that George Bush would be a better President. It appears that many of them do. And George Bush was the "Worst. President. Ever."

Imagine if instead of the media fawning for Barack they concentrated on the same pathetic meme: Worst. President. Ever. How cool would that be? Not so cool, but at least it was cool in the Bush years.

The Presidency is a shitty job. You can't win. Look at how they all age before our eyes. Barack is getting hit hard in the polls. People think Bush is about as good (50% want Barack over 43% that would rather have Bush, even though they didn't even like Bush) W's approval ratings were around 30%. This isn't an outpouring of Bush love, it is a backlash.

And the backlash will continue..........................

Was George Bush the worst President Ever? Is Barack Obama the Worst President Ever? Are we asking the right questions?

Robert Gibbs is the ultimate political hack and he's not helping his boss. From a PR perspective, he's terrible.
I hope to God this country realizes that Obama is change they believe they don't want and throw his ass out in three years.

It's been one year. Not even one year. Time will tell. Hell, it's still too early to tell on GWB. This thread is insanely premature.

I've said before that I can't imagine we'll have ever had such reckless Presidents and administrationis in back-to-back administrations. The impact of each of these guys will be felt for multiple decades.

"Staggering" doesn't even being to describe the growth in the monetary base since Obama took office.

Our monetary base has grown 2.5x since the beginning of the recession. Unbelievable!!!

I despise Robert Gibbs. Dude is so condescending during all his briefings and press conferences. His personal approval rating has to be in negative numbers.

Can't wait until we can finally say sayonara to Harry Reid, Botox Pelosi and the Annointed One BHO.

Can't wait until we can finally say sayonara to Harry Reid, Botox Pelosi and the Annointed One BHO.

Problem is, who's on the horizon? We're going to replace them with whom?

Who is going to be truly fiscally responsible? Who is courageous enough today to make decisions that cause near-term pain in order to fix the debt crisis long term?

Every other political issue combined is dwarfed by our fiscal irresponsibility and its long-term aftermath. All of them collectively won't matter if we become insolvent and an economic afterthought.

It's not premature. It's a lock.

In my little world, just like it was too early to say President Obama deserved the Nobel Peace Prize (an opinion with which I agree), it is too early to say he's the worst president ever. Just like the XU basketball season, I'll wait until the end to judge President Obama's entire body of work.

Politically, this country is F'd until we actually start electing people who don't answer to the extremes and the $$$. I have heard people bitch about it, but nobody does anything to change the culture. Anyone who thinks Obama is any different than what we have seen for years is sorely mistaken. BHO is a typical politician answering to the extreme left and the money they throw at him.

It's time that we find people more concerned with America than some damn political party and the extremists/$$$ supporting that party. Yes, that goes for both sides of the aisle.

More exceptional logic from a jesuit trained mind.

Lowest initial ratings = worst performance ever. QED. So its not what is actually happening, its what people say or think about what is happening, that matters?

Better than half of US adults believe evolution is a lie. So it must be so. Better than half of posters wanted to fire Miller because they thought he was a bad coach. It must have been so.

Arguing good vs bad decisions makes sense. Attaching labels with finality, no way to run a country. Wasn't the mantra on Clinton that his entire policy was poll driven, rather than making the right decisions? Where has that "logic" gone?

Most of what Lil Rush posts here is not primary sources, but facile cut and pastes of what (selected) people are saying. This pandering to a predisposed audience isn't an actual debate. Of course that's just something someone is saying.

Exactly...I don't understand the blind partisan patriotism. A gallup poll taken less than a year into the first year of a 4 year term can easily change. Just today in fact, http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,579944,00.html...

Reagan experienced a similar drop in his first year - not as low but almost identical trend - and it rose dramatically shortly after (i'm sure democrats were gloating as well).

The poll mainly has to do with how people feel about their economic present. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Obama is well on his way toward achieving Worst-Ever status, but it has zip to do with that poll.

I don't think you will have to wait until the end of his term to hand him the trophy. The path he is on will (is) having such a damning effect on our economy that it will take a monumental effort to dig out of it.

The really bad part is that he is just running up numbers on the federal ledger right now. Wait until he comes to the private sector and actually reaches into our pockets to pay for all this. We ain't seen the check yet
