Yesterday at Roger Bacon, Xavier's football team fell to 4-2 on the season losing to Wright State's Raiders 13-9. The Muskies failed to hold on to a 9-0 lead and lost their second Midwest Club Conference game of the season.

(This will be a shorter version of the game as it was Parents' Weekend and I went to the Xavier campus after the game to visit with my daughter who is a freshman.)

X won the coin toss and received the opening kick which was returned to the WSU 37. On a 3rd and 10, QB Chris Greenwood completed a pass to Jon Deters for 34 yds to WSU's 3. However, X c
had to settle for a 27 FG by Greg Amyot after failing to gain positive yardage.

WSU returned the kick to its 33 yd line; and moved to X's 37 before X DB Pat Fagel intercepted a WSU pass. A 15 yd pass from Greenwood to Jon Deters gave X a ist down at the X 45. An 8 yd pass to Jon Deters and a WSU offside moved the ball to the WSU 41 yd line. Greenwood's pass to WR Dan Deters gained 25 yds; and a 9 yd strike to Jon Deters in the endzone gave X a 9-0 lead. Scott Manze's PAT kick was blocked.

WSU failed to move the ball and punted to X's 38. Greenwood connected with Nick Sexton gor 6 yds and the quarter ended.
From X's 442, Greenwood hit Dan Deters with a 27 yd pass and Greenwood followed with a 29 yd. run. Two successive procedure penalties moved X back 10 yds. However, Greenwood's next pass was intercepted in the endzone and WSU was tackled on their 2yd. line. On the very next play, DB Dave Pergolini intercepted a pass at the WSU 36. RB CJ Moreland ran for 1 yards; and successive passes to the Deters duo moved X to WSU's 10. X could not get a TD; and the FG attempt by Amyot missed.

WSU started at its 20 but could not get a 1st d. and punted. Eric Miles did not field the punt and Greenwood was intercepted at the WSU 46. The Raiders failed to gain a first down and punted to X's 20. A holding penalty moved X back to its 10 and X punted after failing to convert a 1st d..

Amyot's punt was returned to X's 44 and WSU passed to X's 26.
Raider RBs gained 7yds but X stuffed the 3rd down for a 4 yd loss.
WSU's 40 yd fg was good as the ball skipped over the crossbar cutting X's lead to 9-3 which was the score at half as X ran out the clock.

WSU took the second half kick at its 47 and after LB Greg Morgan stopped the WSU quarterback for a 7 yd loss, WSU faced a 3rd and 15. Successful passes of 29 yds. 14 yds and 8yds netted WSU a TD knottiing the score at 9-9. The WSU kick was good; WSU led 10-9.

X failed to gain a first d. after the kickoff to X's 15 and Amyot's punted to X's 47. A Raider pass to X's 26 and a run to X's 8 gave WSU a first and goal. X's defense threw the first down play for a 2 yd. loss and DL Dom Ruccella teamedd with DL TK Washington for a sack of the WSU QB. The Raiders settled for a 27 yd FG and a 13-9 lead.

The kick was returned to X's 46 but Greenwood was dropped for 3 straight sacks as he dropped back looking for receivers. WSU received Amyot's punt and WSU's ground game picked up 22 yds on four plays before LB Greg Morgan recovered a fumble for X at its 32..
But a procedure penalty and aholding penaly gave X a 1st and 25 fromits 17. Passes to Jin Deters and Eric Miles gained 7 for the Muskies before the 3rd quarter ended.

Greenwood's 7yd keeper failed to gain a first and Amyot's 66 yd punt went into the WSU endzone. A WSU pass moved the ball from the 20 to X territory before penalties and Washington/Rucella QB sack forced a punt. LB James Tilton blocked the WSU punt giving X a 1st down on WSU's 48. Three runs by Eric Miles netted yds andon 4th and 1, Miles ran for the 1st down.

Greenwood's 7yd pass to Nick Sexton was negated by an ineligible receiver. Facing a 4th and 10, Greenwood's pass attempt failed.
Basically, WSU ran out the clock as X was hurt by a pass interference call on 3rd and 10. WSU had the ball at X's 34. WSU moved to 1st and goal at X's 10 within the final minute but the Muskie defense held and the WSU fg attempt failed with 16 seconds left on the clock. The clock expired on the Muskies who fell to the undefeated Raiders, 13-9.

(For the second straight game, Xavier was without the services of starting RB Jim Castrigano and LB Phil Migitz who are both out with injuries.)
