You iPhone users that have been trying to figure out why the eff AT&T hasn't been supporting sending pictures in your text messages will finally be able to with the update to be released today.
Tethering (the supported, non-illegal kind) is still "coming".

Yeah. That's AT&Ts fault. I can't wait until their contract expires and Apple is able to leverage a different network. I think some competition between iPhone service providors will be a healthy thing.

I'm not rich at the moment, so no iPhone for me... but alas, I will have to settle for an iTouch... Sucks to be me.

Yeah. I was surprised at how expensive the iphone voice and data plans were, but I think that $199 for a 3G-S is pretty reasonable. You can get the original iPhone for $99 now!

Booo. If I get the 3.1 update, then I can't tether (which I am doing right now). So if I want MMS, I have to give up tethering. Hmm, free (not illegal by the way) wireless internet for my laptop, or MMS. That's an easy choice.
I HATE dayton.

Not illegal in the sense that I don't think you can go to jail for it, but assuming you're with AT&T, it's a violation of the terms of the contract you signed. The way I understand it, you're exposing yourself to a financial liability.
The iPhone has a pretty good web browser as it is. I don't travel with my laptop enough in places without wi-fi to risk breaking my contract.

Did you get the message in itunes that "there is an update available to your carrier settings"? It's kind of a 2 step update.

When AT&T turns on MMS for you, they will send you a text message with directions. When they do, you have to dock your iPhone and not ony sycnh your phone, but click "Check for updates" The update takes a matter of seconds, and will return the message "Carrier file downloaded succesfully" After you see that the phone will synch again. After that is done, follow the directions of your text message and power down then power up the phone.
There will be no immediately available clues the update took place. Once you have done all that, test it by trying to send a new text message, if you have a camera icon next to the box you normally enter text into, you are good to go. Just touch the camera icon and it will give you the choice between taking a picture, or choosing one that is already saved to the phone.
