Very sad to hear, and yes, he had some very solid movies. RIP Pat, may you clean out a lot of bars up in heaven.

Saint Peter: "Welcome to heaven, Patrick."
Swayze: "The name is Dalton."
Roadhouse keeps growing in stature. Red Dawn is still badass. Great cameo role in Donnie Darko. I liked The Beast the past year, especially since half of it was shot in my neighborhood. One of the best SNL skits ever - Chippendales tryouts with Chris Farley.
Plus, he totally ripped that dude's throat out fighting next to that lake.

Loved "Red Dawn" growing up but haven't seen it in years. Probably watched it everyday for almost 2 months one summer.

He was the whole package: brawn for the guys and looks for the girls. Every story I've heard about him says he was a great guy, too.

Dirty Dancing was incredibly cheesy but as a woman, I appreciated the Patrick eye-candy. Actually, I thought he was very good in Ghost; I know, I know, it's a "chick flick!"

My suggestion is to never watch it again. It's way better in your head than on the screen.
I loved it as a kid, but saw it within the last couple years. It's painful.

Had a varied body of work with universal appeal. Heard the "good guy" rep, too. RIP. BTW, that scene in Roadhouse was one for the ages. Quite an acrobat.:D:D

Man you don't even know how bad Summer of '09 has been for me on the death front. At any rate, it is too bad that Patrick died. Too young, too young. Not to be flip, but I have seriously always wondered if he was related to John Cameron Swayze (for those of us old enough to know who he is).

KK: are you smoking crack? Red Dawn was extremely influentional to many audiences. As a student of the cold war, you should know about the recently released secret KGB report. In it, the commie bastards decided not to invade/nuke us becuase they thought we would fight to the death ala "The Wolverines" in Red Dawn. Don't you see, Swayze and Ronald Reagan kept American strong! Plus, it is kinda "Kanye-esque" to diss Red Dawn on this day of days. Roadhouse rules too. Though, I kind of envy Ben G's iron fist grip on his town. I need minions like him. Minions with big tires that crush car dealerships.

xubball93 - as a guy, I'm not a fan of chick flicks in general but I too liked Ghost. Could have been Demi the more I think about it!

A true classic. And consider the cast, including:
Swayze
Cruise
Diane Lane
Rob Lowe
Sheen's brother
The Karate Kid
I'm missing at least a few more

One of the funniest SNL clips of all time. Sad though that both actors died too early.

I know it is way too soon to joke about Patrick Swayze, but Kanye will stop being funny by the end of the week, so I'm conflicted. The joke wins out because Kanye's a dick and I think Patrick Swayze would have had a good sense of humor about it.

Road House is required viewing. It's hard to explain my attraction to the film.
I remember looking up Roger Ebert's review of Road House right after I watched. He also didn't quite know how to react to it (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/19890519/REVIEWS/905190303/1023):
Was it intended as a parody? I have no idea, but I laughed more during this movie than during any of the so-called comedies I saw during the same week. Consider, for example, the movie's hero, a barroom bouncer named Dalton and played by Patrick Swayze (last seen in "Dirty Dancing"). Here is a man known as the best bouncer in the business - and the business must pay well, since he owns a Mercedes convertible. But he is not simply your average tough guy. He has a Ph.D. in philosophy from New York University and is capable of deep insights into his trade, such as, "In a fight, nobody wins." Dalton is summoned to a small Missouri town where the Double Deuce, the local nightclub, is terrorized nightly by the local goons and louts. His assignment: Bring peace to the bar so the owner can remodel and expand. His enemies: the hired guns of Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara), the extortionist with the exotic trophy room. (Everyone in this movie has names out of a Western - not only Dalton and Brad Wesley, but also such characters as Wade Garrett, Doc, Emmet, and Cody.
