So my three kids have effectively destroyed the sectional couch the wife and i bought shortly after we were married in 2000. I now have to bite the bullet and buy a new set. We're looking at a brown leather sofa/ottoman/loveseat set. I don't feel like driving all over the 275 loop and burning a saturday and babysitter to get this done.
I need 3 places to go that won't put us in the poorhouse. Anyone have any recent experience with this mess I'm about to embark on?

My wife worked in a fine furniture consignment shop. You wouldn't believe the beautiful pieces that came thru there for 1/3 the original price, very little to no wear. Our whole house is stuff from consignment shops. Also, with the rugrats, you might want to put off buying new. Craigslist is a good source also:

we went shopping a few years back for bedroom furniture and checked out Furniture Fair, Globe, Sofa Express (before it went defunct) and Ashley. Ashley by far was the cheapest and they let us finace it also. And since its huge, the selection was incredible.

For something a little nicer, yet not that expensive, try Haverty's (Tri-County and Florence). Just finished paying off a couple tables we bought there (9 mo. SAC).

craigslist.org is where it's at. People will practically give away nice stuff for various reasons.

I would avoid used upolstered furniture if possible. There is a bedbug epidemic right now.

Don't think they like real leather much.

Are you at a point where you're sure the ankle biters are done messing up the furniture? If not, I've been very satisfied with Value City's couches for utility purposes. I've only had the fabric ones, not leather, so I can't vouch for those.
I'd also second the resale shop idea. Snooty Fox and Legacies are worth a look. And at Legacies, you're supporting a worthwhile cause.

Salvation Army in Norwood. Get there just after 4 during the week with a pack of smokes to share and you'll have 10-15 people fighting to help you load your vehicle for you. If your kids are just going to destroy it again, you may as well go cheap. It is also a source of cheap entertainment. On Saturday, get the whole family drunk and take turns reaching inside the couch and see who pulls out the best prize. Educational: have your kids write a story about what they found in the couch and what the person who lost it was like.

I would second the Ashley suggestion. For what you are looking for they have a great selection and pretty good prices.

I have always liked Furniture Fair and you can haggle w/ them. Ashley's stuff is not that great of quality, no offense. Haverty also has nice stuff. Bassett (Fields Ertel area) also has very nice stuff and frequent sales.
smails, there's a great place in Montgomery called Pedigree Interiors. It's a nonprofit consignment shop, and it gets some really nice furniture in. (All proceeds support the United Coalition for Animals and the operation of the UCAN Non-Profit Spay/Neuter Clinic down on W 8th.)
It's worth a look ... Pedigree Interiors (http://www.pedigreeinteriors.com/)

We picked up a sofa, an overstuffed chair and a hida-bed-sofa for less than $2000 at Lazy BOy, which has pretty good quality. Of course the pedigree place sounds more to your liking. But I offer LB just the same especially if there's a sale.:D:D

We've had some success with Bond Furniture in Loveland. They were way below Furniture Fair for the same items.

Thanks for the insight...unfortunately the wifee won't go for used non-wood furniture. She loves antiques, but not for naps, tv watching, or business time. we'll probably go middle of the road as far as quality goes. The kids are still destructive (my 3 year old got the sharpie out of my golf bag a couple months ago and went to town on the kitchen floor) so we're still 1 or 2 sets away from some really nice stuff.
Decent looks and durability and price are the hot buttons..

Yes, I forgot about that place. Their selection is not quite the same as Furniture Fair but can they order items through vendors. I actually got better pricing than Bond for some kids bed room furniture (same stuff) at Jeffery Furniture in Mason ph: 398-3112.

I'd second that. Especially with a 3-year-old prone to sharpie incidents. Ikea's stuff doesn't last forever, but if you're looking for 5 good years with something that will look decent and hold up okay, IKEA has some good options.

Try Macy's or the Elder-Beerman furniture store South of Dayton (the Centerville exit, I think). When they are having sales, I've found things really cheap. I got a nice couch from Macy's that's microfiber so I can clean it off with a sponge if needed.
God bless microfiber!!

I would be pissed if I had furniture that only lasted 5 years. Spend the extra $$ and get something that will last 10+ years.

Now I love Ikea, however, I found that their couches/chairs were not that comfortable. Nothing I wanted to lay around on. However, it is cool that most have covers that can come off and be washed.

Gay..................... and cheesy. I can't believe some of these recommendations. They sound like a cross between Clifton and Dayton.
