6'4 PG with all the tools to be a great player. He isn't very aggressive or assertive at all times. If he steps that up and really gets after it then he will be a very good player.

He showed his full potential tonight in a match-up against Lawrence Central and Jeremy Hollowell. Hollowell has had a very inconsistent year.

Harris was explosive and agressive tonight. He showed his high major potential.

He'll be at Butler this weekend, though, he is almost certainly going to go to Purdue.

"Class of 2012 Hamilton Southeastern star Gary Harris was on campus at Xavier over the weekend for their game against Richmond, and had a great visit. Harris rates as one of the top prospects in a loaded Indiana Class of 2012.

Harris greatly enjoyed his visit to Xavier. “It was really good. It was a great game against Richmond. After the game, they showed me around campus, and we talked about how great of a school it was. The visit was really great,” said Harris.

Harris can definitely see himself playing at Xavier. “Yeah of course I could see myself there. They have a great coaching staff, they are all like a family there, and it is a great school for education,” said Harris. "

I'm going to be working in Indianapolis (again) this week. Looks like his HS has a sectional game Tuesday night nearby. I should try to catch that action. Would it be a violation of any kind if I wear Xavier attire...?

Umm, no. Just try to avoid chatting it up with him and/or his parents.

I can't hold up a sign that says FEED THE STREAK!? What's the point in attending then...?

Hope to make it to tonight's game. I actually have a meeting with a client at 6 PM. That's right, 6 PM, and this is in the K-12 education world where the day usually ends by 4. Fortunately, the game is only about 15 miles from my meeting location so I should be fine.

I'll post an amateurish report afterward.

Not sure where you are looking, but Gary's team received a bye and doesn't play until Friday.

I just noticed that today. Actually, the place I looked first was the web site of Gary's High School. I was looking for their BB schedule.

Today, I found the state's web site for the tournament and saw the bracket which has Hamilton Southeastern earning a bye and playing Friday. I'll already be out of Indy by then, so no dice this time around. I will be back next week, so if they advance, maybe I'll get the chance to see him play in the next round.

Ah, that's who that was. I was waiting inside the front doors of Cintas before the game Sunday and I saw him walk in with his mom and I guess his brother. He had gotten a floor pass or something from will call. I figured he was a recruit but didn't know who he was.

Jody Demling, Courier-Journal, interviewed Gary Harris and at the end he talked about Mack and Steele. If X can lock up some of the '12 talent in Indiana, X is going to be rolling for a while.

Gary Harris looking at MSU, U-M

X might be out of the running.

Where do you draw that conclusion from?

"I think I'm going to do Notre Dame later this month," he said. "Notre Dame and Xavier. All the campuses are the same -- they just differ in the size and location. The real big difference is going to be the coaching staff and the relationships that we have with each other. There is no specific timeline (for determining the best fit) right now. I'm just trying to see what's best for me. When I find out what's best for me, I'll make a decision."

Besides Izzo might not be there too much longer and UM well...they ain't what they used to be.

IMO if Izzo stays, it is tough to turn Michigan State down. Your practically guaranteed a final four if you stay four years.

Michigan State has 2 Shooting Guards committed in the 2011 class.

Dwaun Anderson Rivals 4 star Ht:6'3" Wt:170 lbs rank 86
and
Brandan Kearney Rivals 3 star Ht:6'5" Wt:175 lbs rank 144

I'm not saying it's not going to be a recruiting battle but I wouldn't count Xavier out in the least.

I'm sure Xavier would be happy to have both, but in my opinion X gets DSR or Gary Harris. Not both. They play similar positions and are similar in size to Dezmine Wells.

I am not sure I agree with this. If I am not mistaken, DSR is a 1/2 and Harris is a 2/3. That goes well with our class of 2/3, 3/4, 4/5, 4/5 this year and 1/2, 2/3, and (hopefully) 3/4 next year. Then in 2012 if we can get DSR (1/2) and Harris (2/3) then add a big (4/5) either next year or 2012 (or both) we have plenty of balance.

I see Harris as a 1/2 combo guard in the Avery Bradley mold. It would be difficult to plat these guys and Dezmine wells together. If none of them grow to much, it would be a significant size dissadvantage.

xufan02

Xavier would be happy with either and/or both, but we need a true shooter. If I had my choice it would be Garry Harris.

Correct me if I'm worng but isn't it illegal for Alumni of a University to get really involved in recruiting.

Seems to me it had been mentinoned before that when Posey was in the house he could not talk with the recruits we had at the time.

By the way, I would love to see XU make Indiana its bitch and land DSR, Hammons and Harris in the same class. Yes, there could be an issue with the PG/SG/SF positions with both DSR and Harris being added to the mix (Davis, Lyons, Canty, Martin, Wells), but I think Mack would make it work out just fine.

I actually view Sampson as a 3 too, but last time I posted that I was asked why I wouldn't consider him a 4. Didn't want to go down that road so I just left him off the list. But, yes, he should be in there too.

Interview with Gary

http://spartannation.com/Hondo's_House/flash/GARRYHARRISSNR073110.html

It's kind of an unfair advantage to have "Spartan Radio" interview Harris. The interviewer is very biased to MSU, of course, and the nature of the interview is tended to Michigan State. The interviewer also acts like he has a man-crush on Harris which in a way reflects well on MSU. It's almost like having another recruiter out there. It is human nature that the more you talk well about a program like Harris did about MSU (and deservedly so) that you almost talk yourself into that college.

I don't know it's weird to me. Maybe I should call up Gary for "Musketeer Radio"...that would make it fair. Of course WLW isn't in a hurry to get a Xavier show but it would be a pretty nice podcast.

If all fails with Harris, a steal may be Jeremiah Jones.

A 6'3" 200 SG out of Merrillville, jones is a smooth and savvy scorer with credible athleticism. He is a grade ahead of where he should be (rumored to have genius I.Q.) and is currently 2011. Right now his offers are mid-small majors and he MAY attend a prep school next year, which would reclassify him as 2012. Check out his profile at www.thehoopside.com/jeremiah-jones.php (highlight tape coming soon)

I haven't been a member of the rivals site in a while but before I left I hadn't heard anything about Gary Harris in a long time because he was in football season. And once DSR committed to X it seemed that Gary Harris would go elsewhere. Before DSR committed I thought X and Mich. St. were leading so I'm also interested to hear where we stand with Harris now. I would rather have Harris than DSR even though I would be fine with DSR just recommitting.

Anyone with good info heard anything about Harris since DSR decommitted?

Despite the fact that Mich. St. always seemed to be about 25 schollies over the limit for 2012, I always felt that was where he would end up. Just seemed like a place he wanted to be all along. Probably just had to wait for things to shake out and for Izzo to find a way to get him there.
