I'm not good with math, but I think that's at least one strikeout per inning.

Looking forward to purchasing my first Rosenbaum Nationals jersey.

he will get his chance to make an impact. I work in the minors and the Nationals farm system is not all that great, so if can make make a name for yourself you will move up the ladder fast. He has a chance as long has he can show he can do that in every level he pitches. Mike Piazza was drafted in the 65th round, or something like it, so anything is possible, especially if its the nats minor league system.

The odds are stacked against anyone drafted outside the first round or two, but 22nd round isn't really that low. There are 40 rounds, so he's a mid-round pick.

Of course, guys who strike out a batter an inning in the GCL (and currently have 18 inning shutout streaks going) don't really get a ticket to Washington. They get a ticket to Patomac to play in the Carolina league with the great Boomer Whiting.

Just what I was saying....22 IP in GCL a long way from the the hundreds of innings thru 5 levels to the Show. Next step would be A ball next yr or back to Rookie League. The guys who got the big signing bonuses will alway play ahead of you until you prove they don't deserve to.

The fact that a Dayton Flyer grad (Craig Stammen) is now in the Nats rotation should tell you the shape of Washington's pitching this year.

I can just see Thor coming to GABP later this year if he starts against the Reds.

I'd also add that the goxavier site is misleading saying that Danny was 2-5. I looked up his stats this season and he had an ERA of about 2.40 over 100+ innings in Hagerstown. He didn't get much run support. I also saw that he started the All-Star game for that league. Solid to see from some former X-men.

What's he need to do to get promoted? Still stuck in A ball in Potomac after 7 starts there last year and 4 more this year with an ERA under 3 both years. He's 23, so he's not exactly young by baseball standards for A ball. Seems to me that it's about time for him to hit AA.

bobbiemcgee
04-28-2011, 05:40 PM
Potomac ia advanced A, so AA possibly this summer. AAA clubs are "insurance policy" guys, so most of the prospects come out of AA. His era is still good and the guys he plays with aren't the most stellar on defense. I think he's still on track for a cup of coffee late this year and if he does well may get on the 40 man roster for spring training. His stuff isn't overpowering or he would already be there, but he gets people out. LHP always in huge demand.

As we get back to Rosenbaum, he's got a pretty decent stat line:

Stats - Potomac Nationals (http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=t_ibp&cid=436&stn=true&sid=t436)

4-3, 2.50 ERA, 12 games started (79.1 IP)

74 hits, 28 BB, 57 Ks

That's about 6.2 innings a start; hopefully his call up to AA is forthcoming in the near future.

GoMuskies
06-13-2011, 03:14 PM
Rosenbaum had a little problem with the base on balls early in the season that he seems to have solved. He's too old to spend a whole season at high A with his stats. The Nats need to get him to AA and see what they've got in him.

It doesn't look like he'd be called up this year; Rosenbaum isn't on the active 40-man roster for Washington. I don't think he can be called up at this point (unless he's allowed to replace someone who is either released or placed on the 60-day DL).

Hopefully he'll have a good shot at a 40-man spot for 2012. My guess is that their rotation will definitely include Strasburg, Jordan Zimmerman, and John Lannan; who knows how their other spots will shake up.

Maybe PMI and District of Columbia Muskie would know better than I would.

bobbiemcgee
09-05-2011, 09:58 PM
He doesn't need to be on the 40 man to get the call. Just cuz he not on the 40 man doesn't mean he not outperforming Pitchers on the 40 man. They have two more years before they have to add him to that. My guess he won't get called up unless there's an injury or they just want to take a look after his season's over with Harrisburg. I'm guessing he'll get invited to spring training with the big club. For a guy picked 651 picks behind Strausburg, it would be a fairy tale for sure.

GoMuskies

It would be a miracle for him to make the Nationals out of spring training, though. Could see him in AAA perhaps to start the year. If he performs there, though, he'll be in good shape, because at least one spot basically always opens up in a major league rotation during the course of a season.

If he keeps those numbers up, you have to wonder where he'll finish the season. He's not on the 40-man roster for Washington right now, and the only way I see him winding up there is if one of their pitchers gets injured and/or traded. Here's what a blog named Touch 'em All says about Rosenbaum prior to his last start (7 more shutout innings). I think his comments about age are right on, and I'm not quite sure why the Nats haven't put him up against players his own age yet, but so far so good I suppose:

"Daniel Rosenbaum LHP Nationals – Age – 24 – The 22nd round pick in 2009 is not regarded as one of the top prospects in the Nationals organization. He’s too old for the league and has been at each stop along the way. To his credit though, he’s pitched well on each assignment and is currently sporting a 5-0 record with a 0.71 ERA and a 33/4 K/BB rate. He’s not going to over power anyone, but does spot his pitches well. He needs to be promoted soon so that the Nationals can see if he can handle age appropriate competition."

I was unaware such a format existed. So they can draft someone off another team's minor league affiliate as long as they keep him on their roster?

yes the Rule 5 Draft has been around for a very long time. However most players do not last the year on the big league roster that they were drafted by. Usually they get sent back to their orginal team for a fraction of a coast. Its a a gamble draft really. Only a handful of guys have gone on to stay with the team. Dan Uggla is probably the biggest recognizable name right now. Ryan Flaherty stuck with the ORioles last year but that was mostly due to necessity out of injuries. Jose Bautista was a Rule 5 pick by the Orioles back in the day but didn't stick and was sent back to the Pirates. Maybe they should have had more patience with him.

This guy would be in the show with about any other MLB team. Nats just have great pitching. He'd be the #1 guy for the Rockies who have NO pitching, plus he has a great sinker for Coors field.

Guess they were reading my mind. Nice Pickup and Major League minimum will be a huge raise.

More or less. All players (I believe after x number of years in the minors) that are not on a teams 40 man roster are put into draft. If a player is selected they have to stay on the major league roster. If they are taken off the roster I believe they are sold back to their team for like 50k.

And I guess my post had not posted from my phone. I can see that the draft has already been explained. Sorry about that

I think the only requirement to be protected is to be on the 40 man roster of your major league team. If you are not on that specific roster than you rights are available to be selected by any other major league team.

Looks like Rosenbaum will start the year at AAA-Syracuse; as of today he's listed on the Chiefs' roster.

Rockies should have kept him. Ground ball Pitchers always needed in Coors Field. Actually, any Pitching would be welcome in Coors Field.

We are perfectly happy having him back on the roster.

I'm not an expert on Rule 5 drafts, but when was the last time a Rule 5 draft pick made the team and contributed significantly to his new team? I do not know the answer.

Here's a good article about recent Rule V picks:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/03/rule-5.html

I forgot Josh Hamilton had been one. The last one I had recalled that did much for the Reds was Tim Layana in 1990.

Rosenbaum's AAA debut was a good one - 5 scoreless innings while giving up 4 hits, 2 walks and 2 strikeouts.

Good find, thanks. I'll have to take a look at it.

Ryan Flaherty was a Rule 5 pick last year for the Orioles and had some key hits during the second half of the season as they made their run to the playoffs. Dan Uggla, now of the Braves, was a Rule 5 pick by the Marlins and became an All Star. So it happens, but generally the picks don't work out.

Still excelling @ AAA:

Had one bad game where he gave up 6 runs or his era would be tiny.

Danny made his first start coming off Tommy John surgery on Saturday for the Lowell Spinners of the short season New York Penn League. 4 innings, 2 hits, 2BB, 2K and 1 unearned run. That's got to be considered a successful return. I wonder how long Boston will keep him in the low minors before getting him up to Portland or Pawsucket.

The end may be in sight for young Mr. Rosenbaum. He's been awful in A and AA ball this year. Hopefully the Sox make allowances for the fact that he was coming back from TJ surgery and give him another shot next year, but this is a lost year for sure.

He's doing rehab starts. He's going to get smacked around. Only a yr. since the surgery. I would guess 18-24 mos. before returns to full velocity. Problem with Danny is he never had the the 90+ hummer anyway. He could hit the spots, tho. His age is definitely working against him. Hope someone gives him a shot.

Saw Danny pitch for the Scottsdale Scorpions (as a selected member of the Boston Red Sox) in the Arizona Fall League. The Red Sox are wanting him to pitch in relief. Hoping he continues the good results so far and realize his MLB dream.
